Hot Pads and Fresh Bread

January 15th, 2010

Potholders

These were some hot pads I whipped up to go along with a cookbook I gave as a gift. I’ve been obsessing over bread for a few months now. Baguettes, sourdough, challah, pizza, cinnamon buns–all manner of bread-inspired dinners, all because of the amazing book “Artisan Bread in Five Minutes A Day.” Who knew that one cookbook could revolutionize your life in the kitchen (okay, maybe some people already knew this, but I myself, had yet to have such an experience)? When a friend of mine came over one day literally evangelizing this book, I promised I would give it a try. The dough literally takes five minutes to make. There’s a couple hours to proof it, but that doesn’t involve any steps from the baker. So, try it, if you’ve ever been interested in making your own bread. I swear it’s easier than a bread machine, which takes up so much space! The authors of the book have kindly posted the basic recipe on their site, above, but the book is well worth it.

Bread is one of my favorite things to bake but I don’t do it often because it feels like it takes forever. I will have to give this book a try!

    Thanks for sharing! :)

Yum! It’s making me hungry just thinking about fresh bread….I need to get some dough going! I love the potholders, I need to try making the square kind. The oven mitts I’ve been making use up so much of that expensive insul-bright stuff!

Love the grey/yellow fabric, what a lucky friend to receive a gift like this. There’s nothing better than the smell of freshly baked bread…you’ve inpired me to crank up the oven!!
