Vintage Buttons
November 27th, 2009
I found two jars of these while I was in Connecticut. I made a quick stop to pick up some items for the bride and popped into an antique store for a minute and found these. The jar is vintage and there are hundreds of vintage, plastic buttons. I’ve got anywhere from 4 to 12 of any given one and they’re all fairly elaborate and in bright, pretty colors. I was giddy when I saw them perched on a shelf behind some records. Ryan had been driving the sleeping baby in circles while I stopped in, and I had to try very hard not to exuberate too loudly in the car. Once the baby woke up, I unwrapped the jars and showed them to him with a proud smile and he was like, “Oh, a jar of buttons.” I quickly tried to explain to him that it was not just a jar of buttons, but the best score ever. He didn’t really understand until I told him it was the like the time he found a first edition copy of Tin Tin, and he replied, “Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.”
I’m still not sure what I’m going to do with them. Anyone have any good ideas for buttons? Please share your links!

Fun! I love looking through vintage buttons! I don’t have any great ideas for how to use them, but I’m sure we can come up with something! Ohh, what about a button garland for the tree?!

I would love them just sitting in their jars on my shelf!
My mom had a button tin that I used to play with when I was little. Hmmmmm, I bet it is still in the same spot at her house . . .

lucky find!
you could do a button wreath and sew some onto a cardigan. a button garland is a great idea because you could easily take it apart and make something else if you got bored with it.
take a look at my blog. i have a category for buttons

I just started reading your blog and absolutely love all of the fun ideas! As for the buttons there are sooo many possibilities! I’ve seen some really great throw pillows that have unique designs with different buttons. I’ve also seen this done on a cardigan. It was adorable. Have fun!

I think my husband would have reacted the same way. They just don’t get it do they? :)
I don’t have any links but I’ve always wanted to use buttons in a kind of collage with different fabrics. I would scatter them across the piece so they resemble flowers in a garden… Does that make any sense? lol
congrats on the awesome find!
