Vera Linens

Vera Linens

A very dear friend showed up at my door with this collection of Vera tea towel linens, which she gave to me. Gave! I have a few vintage Vera silk scarves that I picked up at a vintage shop in Brooklyn. I poked around the internet to try and find some information on her and all I came up with were eBay auctions, a 25-word Encyclopedia Britannica reference, and these pages from Daily Candy and Angry Chicken.

I love her colors and the sweet drawings on these linens. What surprises me is that only a few of the designs/colors appear dated or vintage looking—the elephants and the red and green flowers. Timeless design is a feat few can create. I have no idea what to do with these precious textiles. All but one is in perfect condition, so I can hardly warrant drying dishes with them or cutting them to use in projects. I did consider framing them, but they would require made-to-size frames, which sounds a little costly right now. I also thought about stitching them together as-is to form a tablecloth, but that could be ruinous. Anyone have any genius ideas? I suppose for now, they’ve been washed and ironed and will be tucked away in a safe spot.

The bedroom redo is well on its way. I purchased a gray wool couch and ottoman from Entry Filed under: Blog,Crafts

What amazingly beautiful treasures! If only we all had friends like that! :) If you are serious about framing them you could easily place them between two panes of glass and use special binder style clips to hold them together and mount them. This would match the clean modern lines of many of the prints and would be fairly inexpensive, just measure the prints, add a few inches to each side and have a glass shop (or frame shop) cut pieces for you.

I like Elizabeth’s suggestion. Also, what store did you buy your furniture from? The link’s not working but I’m curious and want to know :)

I must agree with the framing idea as cutting or sewing them doesn’t do them justice. They are amazing prints. What a lovely gift to receive.

Those are fantastic! I love the elephant one, especially.

What about covers for pillows? They’d give a lively kick of color to the new grey couch.

I’ve never been one to think something is too “precious” to use, are we not deserving of using precious things? So, one idea that comes to mind is to stitch them together and make curtain valances for a kitchen or laundry room.

I agree with Lisa, some of those would look quite good as pillows on your new grey couch. Especially the yellow and white one and they aqua one with the butterfly.
