Stockings Hung with Care
January 3rd, 2008
Well it’s back to work and back to reality. I took the last days of the holiday break to rest and get some of the things on my list of “to dos” done. These stockings have been on the list since last year. Ryan and I fill each other’s stockings for Christmas and the old ones were just too small. Candy and socks were among the few items that would fit and we’ve had “overflow” boxes the past two years. You could hardly stuff a paperback book in them, plus they were olive green and burgandy–colors that don’t exactly fit into the decor at our house anymore. I was a little sad to see them go as I had made them for our first Christmas that we were married. I quilted these new ones and lined the inside so they are very professionally finished. This was a good project to spend time on the details; they took about 3 hours to make the both of them. It’s been a while since I had time to hammer out a project all at once. I do love crafting in the winter. I crank up the heat, turn on all the lights and it’s so warm and inviting and productive.

I like how you did the cuff. I had a few days off and managed to do a fair share of crafting too. Even though I don’t hate my job, I gotta say it gets in the way of my hobbies.

Love the stockings and the way they are opposite yet complimentary. I would find it hard to give up the first ones…. just a thought might you cut them into small stockings for two ornaments on your tree honoring your first Christmas’.
I really enjoy your blog.

The stockings are adorable! The old ones can be used to put painted branches in or boughs of evergreen and hung as decorations.

Happy 2008, Dacia! Completing an older project is a great way to start off the new year, beside that fact that they are totally cool and adorable.

I like your description of “warm and light and productive.” I think I enjoy that same scenario every early winter….here in AK it is DEEP winter…and I’m tired of trying to make my studio warm and light and productive! I have this feeling I could be *really* productive if only I could go to the tropics for a couple of weeks!
Lol!
Nice crafting! I like those stockings.
