Cupcakes, Projects, Around the Web
December 19th, 2007
Aren’t these cupcakes incredible? Apparently Vegan Yum Yum is a baking goddess. She’s kindly posted a marzipan tutorial on how to make these luscious treasures, and it doesn’t look ridiculously difficult. It might even be a fun project with grade-school girls. I found this quilt while searching around blogland. It’s gorgeous work. I don’t know how you do the free-form quilting on a machine without lots of puckering. Does anyone have any tips (aside from buying a $3,000 machine?). And if you haven’t seen Sew Mama Sew’s amazing list of tutorials, you should stop by. She’s been collecting several and posting them daily. If you’re still needing to make a gift or two, that’s is the place to start!

My tips for successful free motion quilting without puckering:
1. Use the best batting you can. I find that Warm & Natural cotton batting has a really nice way of sitting in its sandwich and behaving itself.
2. Consider a temporary fabric adhesive spray — I am a little bothered by its, well, non-organic-ness but it works for me. If I spray I don’t bother pinning or basting.
3. As you stitch, keep as much of the quilt “level” as possible; push an extra table up against the back or side of the sewing table to carry the bulk of the quilt.
Happy holidays to you and thank you for this wonderful blog of yours! I’ve enjoyed you a lot this year.

No pucker help here, sorry (unless you want a kissy kissy…hee hee)
Um yeah. So those cupcakses look DIVINE. I want to wear the little tasty accessories and eat every bite.

those are sooo cool! would be great for a stitch and bitch party!
i just made my first quilt – a baby quilt from a quilt kit and i decided to do free form quilting. i don’t think it puckered very much, but i’m not expert…did you use a darning foot and turn down the feed dogs on yours? my mom bought my sewing machine, but i highly doubt it was $3,000. it’s a janome.
