My new camera takes nice close-up shots. These are from, again, Ryan playing around with the camera. Photography as an artform is harder for me to grasp than someone with a canvas and paint, where the creation starts from a raw material, the creative inside. But examining the way someone frames something, how a moment is captured from a different perspective, it’s easier to see why photography hangs in a museum. If someone had asked me to take a picture of the sewing machine, a roll of upholstery, a book, and the cat, it would have been a much different thing. The lighting would have been rosier, the set-up less organic, and the overall photo more in context–more realistic.

It’s true. Good photography is like a good painting to me–they’re both magical in that I could never recreate it. Not to detract from the art of it all, but that is a very cute cat!

that is the beauty of photography…each person can look at the same thing and see it quite differently, kinda like a still life only all you have to do is take a breath and…click!

i’m with Nancy, I’d like to see how you see your sewing machine, a roll ofcarpet, a book and a cat…;)

I love my digital camera. I love the instant gratification and I am always finding new ways to use it.

Photography is a great way of expression. It’s too bad that most photography these days is ruined by Photoshop.
It’s so unfortunate that people take beautiful photos and make them look almost cartoonish.

I love the photos on blogs. I like how they tell a story without saying much.

I’ve always been a casual photographer in that I generally just took photos of my family during our adventures without thought about them. Over the last couple of years, I’ve been learning more about how to take better pictures (and I have a long way to go) as a result of trying to share my craft projects. It’s opened up a whole new way of looking at things for me that actually carries over to the actual craft work itself. I guess this means sharpening my creative eye in placing a bit of embroidery here or a special detail there to make my creative efforts better. I’m still learning about photography but the process itself is proving much more fun now.
