Fabric Boxes

Fabric Boxes

I’m really enjoying my Amy Butler book. There are lots of great ideas and patterns included. I’ll definitely be using it for years to come. Which reminds me of this book, Simple Sewing with a French Twist, which I never really did talk about again after I posted about it. I don’t really like it. I’ve tried a few projects, one of which I finished completely and actually threw away; I didn’t even save the fabric. It was the silly beret, which came out looking ridiculous–partly because I’m not so great at sewing in a circle and partly because it was a bad design. Plus, there aren’t many things in there I couldn’t figure out for myself. Many of the ideas are just alterations to already made things, which means you have to actually have the item on hand or go thrift one–apparently not something I’m interested in. So, the book sits on my shelf looking pretty, which it’s very good at.

Back to the Amy Butler book, from which these boxes sprung. I’m making a number of them and I really like how they turn out. I was afraid they would be floppy, but the Timtex really holds up.

i love these boxes, especially box precariously balancing on top…what fabric is this, if you don’t mind me asking?

These are beautiful. I have a weakness for storage boxes. Are you selling these by any chance? I love your blog but am not particularily crafty myself…

wow, I almost bought that the other day, thanks for sharing. It looks really pretty, but there weren’t any real patterns like others out there.

I looked through the Lotta Jansdotta (I had to look up her name… never noticed the rhyme before, thinking her first name was Lana–but I digress!) book, then the French Sewing book and was fairly disgusted by the latter and bought neither. I have a weird feeling that I’ve bought “In Stitches,” but I’m pretty sure I didn’t–yet. Of the three titles, I think it’s the one that’ll win, in part b/c of this post. Nonetheless, I’m getting worn down by all the great Lottta J projects people are making!

    /end novel-length comment :)

These boxes looks great! I’ve thought about making the ones out of the In Stitches book too, but am just not sure what I would use them for… :)

I’m glad you gave me a heads up on that beret because I was thinking about making it—-but I kind of wondered how it would turn out.

I love the Amy Butler book, too! And Timtex is a miracle!

I haven’t commented before but I have to add that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your hemming tutorial! It is such a great idea—-one of those hitting on your forehead while saying, “why didn’t I think of that” types! Thank you!

Your boxes came out beautifully and are so cheerful looking and colorful. (Love colors). I agree that Simple Sewing with a French Twist is definitely more for inspiration than actual project-making. I recently bought the Lotta Jansdotter book and I already know that I am going to get more than my money’s worth out of it. I could realistically see myself making all those projects. I even made the sun hat (had to adjust the seams a bit) but it came out great, just like the picture.

Oh, I’m with you. I got the French sewing for a birthday gift and was so disappointed. It’s “pretty” to look at, but not good for much else.

Thank you for posting the skirt tutorial. I’m anxious to try it–I might lengthen it, as I’m tall and, er, not skinny. :D Hopefully, that’s possible without ruining the look.

    Happy May Day

Timtex is a recent discovery for me–isn’t it great!?

Love the boxes! I’ve collected a bunch of boxes that I wanted to recover, but haven’t gotten around to it yet, so this is good inspiration for me to do it!

I love your boxes. I just made one not too long ago and I was surprised at how well it all came together. They were very simple and easy to do too.

    the boxes look great.
i almost got simple sewing with a french twist but had ready a few iffy reviews so decided on a amy butler book instead as well as a few others for my birthday.
