In Stitches and Picture Crazy, But I Have a Travel Bag

Quilted Travel Bag

This bag is based off of Amy Butler’s “Patchwork Handbag.” I doubled the width, added ten pockets to the inside, and simplified the log cabinish detail. I am so very pleased with how it turned out. I spent the $10 a yard on her fabric to use as the main pattern for the bag. It took quite a while to make (it was a little difficult to figure out the measurements to make it extra wide), but it was a super fun project and I will consider making it again, maybe for a gift in the future. I also made a little quilted pouch and a clear pouch for the airport security line. I’ve posted the widened measurements for anyone else that might want their bag a bit bigger. Just click “continue reading” below.

Ryan and I are walking down to Seattle’s super cool library. We haven’t been, yet. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Your bag looks great! Reminds me of the old Pierre Deux bags that were the Vera Bradley precursors. You’ll be oh so cool with your carry-on.

We need to see a picture of you wearing it. I’m trying to imagine the “look.”

Hi, your bag is totally awesome. Love your fabric choices.
I have the AB book, but had not been inpsired with that bag because of not having the decorator weight cotton. So thank you for showing it in your fabrics and for giving the dimensions.

Your bag is really nice. I’m working on that one as well. I have it all piece and the main part quilted, but I still have to put it together. Was it easy?

It’s amazing! Is it in her book you mentioned previously? I had never seen that book and now I’m intrigued. What’d you think of the library? We filed through with the thousands for the opening, and I’ve never been back… It’d be fun to see it being used as intended rather than from a Disneyland line!

That’s one impressive bag! And your blog is very much eye candy. I was sent over here by Stardust Shoes, in reference to other Seattle bloggers. Hello!

Thanks for showing us the bag – it’s gorgeous. I have the Amy Butler In Stitches book also, but have only attempted the bedside organizer so far. Perhaps I will try this bag next!
