Winter Coats

October 26th, 2006

I wanted to do this post back when Posie started the chain of posting winter coats, but the move got in the way. I love winter coats. I especially like the bold ones with a good cut.

I’ve picked these up at vintage/thrift stores over the years. The burgandy one is from a thrift store in Florence. It still had the lining in tact, but the rumors about Italians not wearing deodorant are true, so it had to be ripped out and replaced. The plaid and blue houndstooth are from Buffalo exchange. I bought three coats on one outing there. There was also a full-length lipstick pink coat, but it was lost in the hubbub on my wedding day. The fur coat is from my favorite thrift store in Wichita, which has since been closed. I also bought a leather, mint green coat with fox fur around the collar. It’s at a friend’s right now, but I’ll post a pic some other time. The green suede is vintage from Israel. I traded a friend a gorgeous, lacey, vintage slip for it; I think I got the better end of the deal. And, the black houndstooth is from the sale rack at Anthropologie.

Now that I’ve bored you all to death, I will be away this weekend. Aja from Buzzing Bee and a girlfriend and I are all going to Napa Valley for a wine tasting trip we’ve had in the works for three years! I’ll drink a glass in your honor and have pictures for you when I get back.

I’m still getting used to the idea of seasons. I’m terrified of driving in the snow. But coats, coats are one of the good things

That’s quite a collection! I actually just bought a beautiful vintage fitted blue-gray peacoat that has a shredded lining. It was a steal at Buffalo Exchange because of the lining, which I figured I could replace. I haven’t the foggiest how to do that though. Any tips?? A tutorial would be even better …
Have a lovely trip to Napa!
