The Birds and the Bees
August 24th, 2006
I snapped these buzzing bees exchanging pollen(?) on a sunflower outside the house this weekend. I love sunflowers, although this variety doesn’t seem to move much–not like the fields of sunflowers in Kansas. It’s amazing, really. I have striking recollections of driving to grandmas house in the morning and seeing the large heads staring at me when coming from both directions, morning and evening. They are such lovely flowers.

What a pretty sunflower! Every time I see them I’m reminded of my Kansas roots!

Sunflowers are the happiest flowers. For me, they remind me of Tuscany. My best off the map experience was on a wee unmarked road thru a field of sunflowers that went on as far as you could see.

Sunflower heaven for the bees.
I love sunflowers!
They grow hearty and wild along Missouri highways, showcasing their royal gold and yellowy hues.
It’s almost as though they are a hint of summers end, and Fall is just around the corner.
