A Weekend’s Doings and Some Tags

May 21st, 2006

My husband took me to the Seattle opera for our first date (I know, how extravagant!) and it really was very surreal sitting there with him in the red velvet seats listening to the libretto and drinking wine at intermission (which was particularly thrilling as I was only 19). Thus, going to the Metropolitan Opera in NYC has been on our long to-do list since we met. Ryan has an affinity for Wagner, so we went to see Parsifal — a six-hour opera — on Thursday. The opera house is gorgeous and the whole performance was top-notch. I had a great time people watching during the two intermissions and I finally had an excuse to wear my red carpet dress (added below by request, although my husband took the photo and was feeling very uncomfortable snapping photos, so didn’t warn me, wouldn’t use the flash, and this was what I got. It’s lavendar chiffon with silk charmeuse underneath and matching shoes!).

I finished my gift tags for the gift tag swap. I had about five failed attempts before I came up with these. I intended to make a linoleum cut and stamp some cute paper, but it was so not cute. And then I was thinking painted polka dots, which again looked miserable, and then these. I think they’re super cute and I’m putting a few sets up for sale on my Etsy shop.

Sounds like the opera was a lot of fun! I went to my first opera (Aida) for my 30th birthday – I had casually mentioned to my best friend at least a year before that it was something that I’d always wanted to do – so she scored great seats for us.

The tags look great – I’ll be tackling mine this weekend!
