Little Bow Ties

May 16th, 2011

I whipped up this little bow tie and learned a few things along the way. Of course this was one of those things I thought should be easy and indeed it came together quickly once I spent an hour figuring it out! After I went in guns blazing on my own, I did find this tutorial, which is much more formal and sophisticated than this mom has time for. Hand sewing… what?! I used hot glue and skipped a few corners, so I”m thinking of posting a tutorial on how I did it, which will save you at least 15 minutes. And don”t we all need 15 minutes AND a bow tie?

We are having a long bout of sicky sick after sicky sick. My child is uber grumpy. He”ll have bouts of cheer; it”s like those rays of sun peeking through the clouds on Seattle gray and drizzle day no. 45. And I relish his smile and think, “There he is! I DO remember liking you!” I”m feeling his whiny-sad-toddler-green-runny-nose-fever-sleeplessness-ness all through my bones the way these Seattle winters make me feel. We”re wondering why we don”t live in California, and then my mom spends the day with us on Friday and treats us to lunch and takes him overnight and Ryan”s brother and soon-to-be wife take him all day Sunday, and we say, “oh. duh.” Ryan had the bright idea of standing out in the freezing rain for a soccer game the day after he had started to feel better and now we”re both coughing again. At least we all look good when Ulysses wears his bow ties.

I hope you all feel better! The weather sucks (I say as I look out the window)–I’m sorry y’all have to deal with being sick on top of it =/
I would love a tutorial when you’re up to it! I’m totally experiencing a baby boom among my friends and I feel like a teeny bow tie is the kind of thing that would “win” the baby shower. haha :)

    Hope you feel better soon.
You should post your version. M absolutely loves the tie I made from the Purl Bee pattern. He wears it all the time. I found a seriously cute waistcoat (suit vest) pattern recently. I’ll have to send it your way once I find it again. It was reversible and uses adult pants. I need to get myself to a rummage sale so I can make one for Matty.
